Information for coordinators

Reach for the Stars is an activity which can involve the whole school.

The role of the school coordinator is to ensure that data from your school is lodged through this site. This won’t be too onerous -- you just need to fill in an online 'data submission form' (schools which did this before 10 pm AEST on Friday 5 September 2008 were eligible for entry in the draw for some great prizes).

To help you to coordinate the activity, you can download the printable Coordinator's 'kit'. This includes a checklist of tasks, and information and record sheets which you can distribute to colleagues.

If there is anything else you need, or if you have any questions, feel free to contact us.

Some ideas:
  • The "coin throwing experiment" could be run in conjunction with a charity or fundraising activity, with students being invited to bring in a coin to be collected and donated after the experiment.
  • A Student Council could organise the activity.
  • A student or group of students might act as the school's Reach for the Stars coordinator - in particular, some schools have encouraged older students to assist with completion of the online data submission form.
  • Invite parent involvement by requesting help with measuring and recording data (and invite them to participate themselves and contribute to an "adults" data set, for students to compare their own results with!)
  • The theme of National Literacy and Numeracy Week is " Partnerships in Learning" - there may be opportunities for older students to work with younger students on activities associated with Reach for the Stars.
  • Work with students to create a display about your event for the school foyer, local shopping centre or public library.
  • Tell another school about Reach for the Stars (perhaps a local pre-school or kindergarten, feeder primary school or nearby high school).
