What should our target look like?
Teachers are welcome to do whichever of the following is most appropriate for their class:
- Print, assemble and use the target available for download;
- Construct targets for or with students; and/or
- Use the printed target poster distributed with recent issues of AAMT's professional journals (Volume 64 No. 2 of The Australian Mathematics Teacher and Volume 13 No. 2 of Australian Primary Mathematics Classroom).
'Target 1' specifications:
- Concentric circles with radii 7 cm, 14 cm and 21 cm;
- Centred on a rectangle equivalent to a sheet of A2 paper (594 mm x 420 mm);
- Labelled so that the central disc is area "A", the adjacent annulus is area "B", the larger annulus is area "C" and the remainder of the rectangle is area "D"
Classes wanting to extend their investigations can also share data collected using 'Target 2'.
